OK, this battle comes from one of the more startling revelations from my youth. I was a semi-big Anthrax fan in high school - just a lot of fun, thrashing songs (Who's the Man is just incredible). One of my favorite concerts I went to was the Primus/Public Enemy/Anthrax concert I went to down in SLC the fall of 1991 (primarily for PE...loved PE!) Anyhow, one of the best songs from the Anthrax album Persistance of Time was "Got the Time"...just totally killer bass.
Fast forward 10 years when I come across a couple of Joe Jackson songs and am impressed enough to buy his greatest hits on spec. Imagine my shock when I hear that this guy:
was responsible for writing THAT song!
Tough call for me - Anthrax's version is emblazened into some of my favorite memories hanging out with my friends, but don't you have to give Joe credit for writing a killer new-wave punk song back in 1979? I'm giving my vote to Joe (who just happens to be my BOTW).
I enjoyed both versions. I know, I even surprised myself. But I vote Joe!
